Dear Mr. President,
as a fellow citizen, but not a spectator, I am writing this short letter to you as you are feverishly preparing to leave the Flagstaff House and become former head of state on 07. January 2025.
Your reign has witnessed highly tumultuous and bitter experiences, which is contrary to what many Ghanaians thought of you when you were a good preacher for prosperity, minimizing corruption, and better development for all in your days in Opposition.
Mr. President, your legacy on the economy, environment, social interventions, corruption, nepotism, etc. are in a very bad taste to majority of Ghanaians including myself.
Constitutionally, you are required to vacate the Flagstaff House exactly on 06. January 2025 after serving your 2 mandatory terms. However, your repeated public pronouncements to hand over power to your favorite, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia instead of former President John Dramani Mahama have sounded undemocratic bells since it is Ghanaians who will decide on 07. December 2024 who to rule them, but not you to decide for them.
When you ascended the throne as the Commander-in-Chief for the Ghana Armed Forces in 2017, you told Ghanaians that you were in a ‘hurry’ to implement your ambitious agenda and therefore needed a bloated government despite some disquiet about your ‘big size’ move.
You also called on Ghanaians to be citizen but not spectators and cautioned your appointees to desist from corruption in the public sector in your unfortunately plagiarized inaugural speech at the Black Star Square.
Fast forward, your 2 terms have witnessed and registered numerous unresolved corruption scandals, brazing nepotism, skills of 8 electorates, intimidation and seeming suppression of media freedom and raping of our environment through killer high-tech galamsey under your watchful eyes.
As the adage goes, a good name is better than riches. Ghanaians including me are not happy to associate your name with a bad legacy and your regime is the worst ever in our Fourth Republican dispensation. This is indeed the case.
Mr. President, with this your unsatisfactory leadership style, you will not be missed so badly. In fact, there is little or no love lost between you and majority of Ghanaians.
Again Mr. President, you have allowed your Presidency to be highly nepotistic; the very thing you heavily chastised your predecessor, former President Mahama for. The likes of Ken Ofori-Atta, Gabby Asare Otchere and Nana Asante Bediatuo, your relatives, have largely contributed to your unpopular, insensitive and uninspiring regime!
At last, Ghanaians are poised for ‘Sankofa’ and they want to bring back the ‘Nation Builder’ who is most experienced, honest, visionary, accommodating and dedicated to finish his unfinished developmental agenda and inclusivity for all Ghanaians.
Sincerely yours,
A fellow citizen, but not a Spectator
