The National Identification Authority (NIA) in the Ashanti Region has deployed registration officials to select basic schools to register pupils aged 6-14.
This exercise, which began on Monday, October 13, 2024, aims to capture all children in the region in the national identification system.
Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, Mr. Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Administrator for NIA, stated that the registration is being conducted in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority, with support from teachers and parents.
He added that the initiative seeks to ensure that all children in the region are accounted for and have access to essential services.
The registration exercise will take place in 25 districts across the region, with selected schools being prioritized initially. The remaining schools will be registered subsequently.
He noted that the effort aligns with NIA's mandate to create, maintain, and promote the use of national identity cards for Ghanaians.
