Ode to Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo

By Kwesi Atta Sakyi 6th February, 2016

There goes a gentleman,
Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo,
A rare gem among dross and slag, and dwarf stars in
Ghana’s political firmament,
Ghana’s darkness his glare to illuminate,
A fine gentleman finer than fettle,
He proved his mettle
When as Foreign Minister he chaired and steered
The UN Iraq Committee at the General Assembly,
He harboured ideas pure and rare,
To cure his moods, he sometimes took refuge in his pipe,
He is neither crude nor rude,
His actions always measured and prude,
Never is he given to gripe as he is forthright,
All he cares for is Ghana’s ills cured,
All he stands for is Ghana saved and prospering,
In those days of unbridled revolutionary fervour and ferment,
He fought trench battles and stood his ground against oppression,
Suppression, and emasculation of the truth by revolutionary zealots,
Akuffo Addo the man-
The best president Ghana never had,
He hoards the answers to Ghana’s woes,
His foes mudsling and malign him left, right, and centre,
But like cork, Nana is unsinkable,
Toe the line and help change Ghana for the better,
Ghana needs salvation from economic morass,
Unbearable taxes, policy obscurantism, high unemployment,
Incompetent political chancers and opportunists, corruption, nepotism, tribalism-
Like cork, Nana is unsinkable
