Dear Your Excellency Pres Mills,
Since this is my first time of communicating to you after your election, I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your election to the high office of the President.
Your Excellency, the cause of me writing this letter stems out of few observations I’ve about your ministers and appointees and the NDC. Owing to clarity, I wish to itemize these observations.
1. Undue bother about what the NPP media say
Your Excellency, you and your appointees know what is good for Ghana and that is exactly what you do. Your government and its appointees should not be bothered by what the NPP media will say about any action or decision you take but rather be bothered by what is good for Ghana. The NPP is a detractor; its preoccupation at moment is to detract you, your ministers and government from attaining your goal. Just like an athlete desiring a crown, who ignores all detractions in the course of his race, I suggest you and your government ignore anything that the NPP media- The Daily Guide and Statesman will say and rather concentrate on delivering.
Your Excellency, remember these NPP people are in to rob you and your government of the crown by detracting you during the course of the race. Do not fall to their whim. This tie in with an incident in Tamale over the weekend where your Vice President Mr. John Mahama is alleged to have instructed that the Northern region NDC Chairman’s vehicle be pulled out of his convoy. In my candid opinion, that was unfortunate and avoidable. His Excellency the Vice President was just trying to guard-against what the NPP media have always hyped –‘long presidential convoys’ and landed himself in that which if not properly dealt with has the propensity to affect the cohesion of NDC in the north. That is why Your Excellency, am saying you, your ministers and appointees should ignore them, because if you’ll want to be conscious of everything they say you’ll not be able to achieve your target. Look at the NPP at one breath chiding the size of the government that it is not lean, and on another breath asking for reinstatement of the ministry of parliamentary affairs. What are these people up to? Mischief of course.
Concluding on this point, I say that, what the NPP media will say should be the least among considerations that should be in the matrix of concentrations that inform a policy decision or any action of your government.
2. You Succession Plan
Your Excellency, the NPP, the only viable opposition party that can ever come to power in Ghana, is going to remain in opposition for the next twelve years or more and by this; you’ll need to get somebody of your party groomed and nurtured to succeed you when you exit. In my candid view, your Vice President is apt for that. Your Excellency, I picked signals that suggest that he (your Vice) does not have the best of relations with the founder. I suggest every effort be made to resolve whatever that it is, that is the cause. This must be done on time and done properly so that Mr. Mahama will relish the need of gearing himself of becoming President when you exit.
Your Excellency, since you have a lot at your hand to handle, from provision of food on our tables to seeing to our cities to be clean, I‘ll not want to take much of your time. Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Mawutorli
