Protest against UHAS honor for Akufo-Addo unnecessary - Volta Group

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The Volta Resistance Movement has strongly condemned the proposed protest by the NDC youth wing against the University of Health and Allied Sciences' (UHAS) decision to confer an honorary doctorate on President Akufo-Addo.

In a statement released today, the group urged all Volta citizens to back off from the demonstration, warning that it would set a dangerous precedent for other regions to deny citizens of Volta Region awards in their regions for similar reasons.

The Volta Resistance Movement called on UHAS to proceed with the proposed plan, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of President Akufo-Addo's contributions to the university's development.

The group also congratulated President Akufo-Addo and all those who contributed to the establishment of UHAS, especially President John Evans Attah Mills for his vision, hailing the institution as a vital catalyst for the region's growth and development.

"We prioritize unity and progress over political divisions," the statement read. "We are Volta, and we stand for peace and development."

The controversy surrounds UHAS' decision to honor President Akufo-Addo with an honorary doctorate degree, sparking opposition from the NDC youth wing.

The Volta Resistance Movement's statement comes ahead of the scheduled conferment ceremony on July 29, 2024.
