Rotary Club of Accra Cantonments comes to the aid of three Psychiatric Hospitals

Rotary Club of Accra Cantonments, a member of the community of over 35,000 clubs belonging to Rotary International has unveiled their flagship project for this Rotary year 2019-2020.

The flagship project involves the Rehabilitation of the Children’s Ward of the 3 Psychiatric Hospitals in Ghana namely Accra Psychiatric hospital, Pantang and Ankaful psychiatric hospitals as well.

The goal is to improve the standard of the facilities in which patients receive care. Whiles undertaking these projects, it is the objective of the club to also contribute to increasing awareness about these health challenges, and drive early intervention

The Rotary Club of Accra-Cantonments has over the years has been organizing annual medical outreach programs in various communities.

Speaking at the 2019-2020 presidential investiture, the President of the club Judith Wilhemina Kormle, indicated that they shall embark on Mental Health Education, Basic Education, Medical Outreach and Road/Fishing Safety Campaign for the year 2020.

“This year we decided to move into more deprived communities where access to health facility is difficult”.

“I am However urging my fellow Rotarians to connect to the world which is the Rotary International President Mark Maloney’s theme for the year 2019-2020 and we should be able to talk to our friends, co-workers, and family about Rotary and thus keep our eyes and ears open for problems that we can help solve. There are several opportunities all around us to make a meaningful contribution and we must consider how we can help children or teenagers in our communities”. She emphasized.

In terms of partnership, she indicated that the Rotary Club of Accra-Cantonments shall also collaborate with Mental Health Authority, Road Safety Commission, Fishermen Association, Western Union, Zoomlion etc. to execute the various projects.

“Community members and their leaders should also be ready to commit labour for the various projects. We are however open to the under listed groups who would
want to partner or sponsor the projects,” She added.

This initiative forms part of our core mandate of Rotary International.
