Columnist: Azongo, Nyaaba – Aweeba

STX and Chinese facility is healthy .....

... for Ghana’s Leadership Psychology

A Development Planner, Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo says controversial and ridiculously ambitious STX housing Project, and the US$3billion Chinese facility portends good for the psychology of Ghanaian leadership to damn consequences, and dare bigger things.

He has also stated that economic poverty is only a physical manifestation of leadership psychological poverty to challenge the status quo. He contended that the collapse of bigger dreams has far reaching positive psychological impacts for national development, pride and identity than the realization of little dreams and glorification of threshold successes.

He has argued that irrespective of the political propriety and challenges associated with these initiatives and outcomes, they are good benchmarks for the psychological fine-tuning of Ghanaian leadership for aggressive development drives. According to Azongo, our underdevelopment is inextricably linked to our inability to dare bigger things, due to the fear of the unknown, which he sees as a fundamental psychological handicap in Ghanaian leadership for aggressive development planning. According to the renowned Development Planner, his major worry over the years has been the glorification of pittance and threshold successes in leadership delivery which amounts to psychological slavery. He queried why little drops of millions of dollars to a whole country have over the years been hailed as groundbreaking, when individuals easily command such wealth in the western countries. He says, the psychological value of the STX and the $3billion benchmark to the nation’s leadership development psychic outweighs its failure to materialize in the present. He said; failure is part of success, it is the risk element that defines entrepreneurship and leadership. He has challenged Political leadership irrespective of partisan wrappings to rise above little dreams and initiatives and be bold enough to dare bigger things to fail than to contend with threshold initiatives.

According to him, he has been listening with amazing interest debate on the STX deal and he feels there can never be failure when you dare bigger things. He says, the STX initiative has set a benchmark for current and future leaders for aggressive housing project in the country. He proposed that this benchmark should, however, lead to greater domesticity in mobilizing the Ghanaian real estate development sector for vigorous housing programmes.

Mr Azongo has said that, the other psychological benchmark left to rid the country of this canker of leadership psychological poverty is an equally aggressive domestic attempt at development without the usual donor substance to break free of this charity-recipient status.

‘If this psychological barrier is broken, Ghana will spring forth a model for the development of the new Africa and free Africa from the psychological bondage of little dreams and foreignization of development’, he concluded
