Biakoye, Nana
The sages have it that, when a toad decides to hop around during the daytime then it has very good reason for doing that.
When J.B Da Rocha, a leading member of the NPP, chose to fire a strong letter to NPP Party Chairman, Peter Mac Manu, warning that if Akufo-Addo sticks stubbornly to Hajia Alima Mahama being his choice as running mate, the party will desert the flagbearer, Da Rocha behaved like a toad hoping around in daytime.
This writer has been searching deep into why Da Rocha did not choose to summon Akufo-Addo to a quiet meeting but chose rather to write a letter and leak same to the press, and there is no reason to fault Da Rocha for his modus operandi.
According to information picked up from a source close to Da Rocha, the NPP bigwig did what he did because Rebecca (Beky) Akufo-Addo, wife of Akufo-Addo, approached the former Party Chairman and fired a strong warning that if the party did not put its foot down and prevent Akufo-Addo from naming Alima Mahama as his running mate, she (Rebecca) would leave for London after the announcement and never come back to campaign.
According to the very credible information, Rebecca Akufo-Addo is in possession of more than enough evidence that points to the fact that there exists an intimate relationship between her husband and Alima Mahama.
The source has it that the last straw that broke the camels back happened when Akufo-Addo recently toured the North with all the running mate wannabes in tow.
It was during that trip that Rebecca is said to have gotten pants down evidence that her husband has been engaging in very intimate coital acts with Alima Mahama.
“Beky was so livid with what she saw that she rushed to Da Rocha and told him in the face that if the party did not act swiftly, and allowed her husband to go ahead and nominate his lover as running mate, she would jump onto the next available plane and go back to London where she lived for a while, and never come back to campaign for Nana” the source said.
“Beky is very much aware of the he-goating nature of Nana but on the matter of choosing a running mate, there was no way she was going to allow her husband’s he-goating to reach such dizzy heights of choosing his lover” the source added.
According to the source, it was such a strong threat from Rebecca Akufo-Addo, that made old man Da Rocha hop around in daytime like a toad on a mission.
And it seems like the move by Da Rocha did the trick as the strong letter he wrote to Mac Manu, indicting Alima Mahama as regards her party credentials, pedigree in terms of political stature and ability, as well as the fact that Akufo-Addo’s lover does not have what it takes to marshal votes for the NPP, succeeded in getting Akufo-Addo to put his coital desires on the back burner hence the last minute move which resulted in Dr. Bawumiah getting the nod.
Indeed, Akufo-Addo, in wanting to prove to his lover that she was still his preferred choice, submitted Hajia Alima Mahama’s name alongside that of Dr. Bawumia in order to appease his (Akufo-Addo’s) lover lest she refuses to allow him further “entry” into her inner sanctums.
Minus his lover, Akufo-Addo was not prepared to pick any party member that is why he went for an outsider.
It would be recalled that in the said letter, inter alia, Da Rocha wrote:
“I am sure you and other members of the Committee have seen the front page of the Statesman newspaper of 30th July, 2008. I see it as a clear message from Hon Nana Akufo-Addo, our candidate for President, that he has made his choice of running mate. It is regrettable that the choice of running mate has been allowed to become a controversial issue in the party. We need to remind ourselves and Nana that he is not an independent candidate for the Presidency, but a flagbearer elected by our party. He cannot, and should not be allowed to treat the choice of a running mate as a purely personal matter as he appears to be doing. The party must have a significant say in such a choice”.
“The publication in the Statesman mentions Hajia Alima Mahama as Nana’s choice. It further seeks to highlight her academic qualifications and compare her with Mr. John Mahama, the NDC running mate. It is a clumsy effort. Mr. John Mahama has a political stature and experience within the NDC which Alima does not have in the NPP.”
“… Alima has a long way to go to qualify as the running mate of our party. I do not think she has the necessary political weight and long-standing within the party. My opinion is shared by many, many loyal members of the party. Nana has been told this by many members of the party. He is aware of the strong opposition to Alima within the party; but he seems to have decided to ignore it.”
“If Nana persists in his choice of Alima, I think that the vast majority of the party will not go along with him”.
“A vice president is a president in waiting. Alima simply does not measure up to it. Presenting her to the delegates conference at Takoradi may well give rise to discord in the party instead of solidarity which is vital for victory in the election.” Hell, they say, has no wrath like the fury of a woman and it is abundantly clear that the wrath of Rebecca Akufo-Addo forced the NPP to pressure Akufo-Addo to drop his lover Hajia Alima Mahama, as his running mate.
