The fourth edition of the Gold Fields Ghana Professional Golfers Association (PGA) golf championship has commenced with over 50 golfers at the Damang Golf Course in the Western Region.

The four-day tournament, which is the annual flagship event for the PGA has professional golfers and international golfers competing for a price money of GH?15,000 for the senior golfers and a sponsorship package of GH?140.000.

Mr. Anthony Kwame Mintah, President of PGA in addressing the golfers at the Damang course congratulated Gold Fields Ghana and the other sponsors for making the event a big one.

I want to say a big thank you to all the sponsors for making this event a big one, it is going to be four days of intense competition.

“We have plans of making this event bigger in the future to take Ghana golf to another level, and I want to use this occasion to urge all professional golfers to be professionals as possible he added.

The Chairman for the planning committee Mr. Hans De Beer also urged golfers to enjoy the event and give out their best, and also thanked the Damang golf course management for the massive work put into maintaining a golf course of this nature.

I know it is not easy to maintain a gold course but looking at how the place is kept and well managed, I must congratulate the management for this beautiful course.

“We have an aim to grow golf in Ghana and are gradually getting there with such tournaments and I know we would get there soon.

To all golfers, this tournament is yours, enjoy it he said.

The tournament, which is being sponsored by Gold Fields Ghana Limited with support from Engineers and Planners, ATS, Gen Star, ZEN Petroleum, Total Ghana and a host of other corporate bodies has international golfers from Senegal and Cote divoire .
