Accra Open Golf championship on Saturday

Accra, Oct. 21, GNA--This year's Accra Open Golf championship, the biggest event on the calendar of the Achimota Golf Club, tees off at Achimota in Accra from Saturday, October 25 and ends on Sunday, October 26.

Mr John F.Sam, Chief Executive Officer of the club, who announced this in Accra on Tuesday, said the two-day 36-Hole Scratch event, open to amateur golfers from Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, is being sponsored by a number of companies including CAL Merchant Bank and Coca Cola Bottling Company.

He said the competition which shall be played in accordance with the rules of the World's Golf governing body, the Royal Ancient Golf Club of Scotland, is expected to attract more than 200 golfers. Mr Sam said the competition shall be played in two groups, the Scratch event for Group A and the Handicap for Group B.

Some leading golfers expected to be seen in action include Nicholas Smallman, Ted Deignan, Albert Brock, David Atuwo and A.A.Hodgewoning, all from Achimota.

The Ladies would also be fielding players like Mona Captan, Mary Asafu-Adjaye, Beatrice Bempong and Wilhelmina Aggrey. Mr Joe Aggrey, Deputy Minister for Youth, Education and Sport would present trophies to the winners.
