Tema, March 16, GNA - The bi-annual Ghana Ladies Open Golf Championship tees off at the Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono, near Tema on Saturday, March 28 and will end on Sunday, March 29. Mrs Rita Dzubey, President of the Ghana Ladies Golf Union (GLGU) who announced this at Tema on Monday, said about 150 golfers from Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal are expected to participate in the two-day 36-Hole Gross event. She said the event, which would be played in accordance with the rules of the World's Golf governing body and the local rules of the Celebrity Golf Club, would be sponsored by Vanguard Assurance Company Limited with support from CAL Bank Limited.
Mrs Dzubey said the event which was in its sixth year, has Handicap 18 and 24 respectively as the entry requirements for participation.
She said some of the golfers expected to participate in the event include veteran Mona Myles-Lamptey, Clara Price, Francisca Vandyck, Yaa Konadu Safo-Debrah and Esther Amedzro, all of the Achimota Golf Club.
Mrs Dzubey said there would also be an 18-Hole Supporting event for the Men which would be played for two days as well as the Youth Championship which would be played on Friday, March 27. She said there would be 39 prizes including 'Longest Drive on Hole 18', Nearest to the Pin on 17' and 'Hole-In-One'. Mr Gideon Amenyedor, acting Chief Executive Officer of Vanguard Assurance Company Limited said the company has decided to sponsor the event as part of its corporate social responsibilities and to offer their clients the opportunity to exercise themselves and remain healthy.
Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka, Minister for Youth and Sports is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour.
