Henrietta wins Future Ladies Golf

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA - Henrietta Amezado scored 45 points to win the third Ghana Future Ladies Open Golf Championship played over 18-Holes at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday.

She was followed in second position by Patience Doe with 41 points, while Felicia Akafo took the third position with 40 points. In the Nine-Hole category, Deborah Amezado came first with 20 points with Adriana Attah taking the second position with 14 points, while Farl Faria placed third with 13 points.

In the Boys event, Martin Mensah came first with 38 points followed by Sena Nyanu at the second position with 37 points while the third position went to Bright Logo who had 34 points.

The one-day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition which was open to lady golfers between the ages of five to 21 years was jointly sponsored by Ecobank Ghana Limited, Somotex Ghana Limited, Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, Promasidor Ghana Limited and Virgin Nigeria Airlines. Mrs Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Minister for Ports, Harbours and Railways, commended the participants for their show of sportsmanship throughout the competition.

She called on corporate bodies and other institutions to offer the necessary support to the young golfers to enable them to develop their talents and for the development of the sport in the country. Mrs Florence Etwi-Barimah, Vice President of the Ghana Ladies Golf Union (GLGU) said the event which was its brain child was started four years ago with the aim of encouraging and promoting the game among the youth especially the females.

She said however due to lack of funding, the Union has found impossible to organize the event regularly and therefore asked for collaboration and support to make it achieve its aim. Mrs Etwi-Barimah also appealed for further support to enable the Union train more ladies to improve upon the dwindling members of female golfers.
