Kitiku to defend Ecobank Golf trophy

Accra, Jan. 14, GNA - Defending champion Emmanuel Kitiku would defend the Ecobank Ghana Limited Open Golf Championship trophy he won last year when this year's competition tees of at the Achimota Golf course in Accra on Saturday, January 19.

Mr Emmanuel Kwabena Oteng-Aboagye, General Manager of the Achimota Golf Club, who announced this in Accra on Monday, said the one-day 18-Hole Medal Play event, which is open to both amateur and professional golfers throughout the country has so far attracted a large entry of about 150 competitors. He attributed the large entry for the championship to the successful hosting of the event last year as well as the attractive prizes put at stake.

Mr Oteng-Aboagye said the entry requirement for the competition, which would be played under the rules of the Royal Golf club of St. Andrew of Scotland, would be Handicaps 18 and 24. The Professionals would battle each other in a two-day 36-Hole Scratch event beginning Friday, January 18 to Saturday, January 19. Meanwhile, Achimota Golf Club would hold its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, January 30 to elect new executive members.
