Opoku wins Tamaklo Memorial Golf

Accra, Nov. 1, GNA - Samuel Opoku became the proud winner of this year's K. N. Tamaklo Memorial Golf Championship played at the Achimmota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday. Opoku who returned a net score of 67, beat Alex Acheampong on count-back by playing 49 Back and 47 Front with a Handicap of 28 and will now be playing to a new handicap to be determined by the Handicap Committee.

Sadique Toffah took the third position with 68 net, David Owen placed fourth with 69 net, while Kofi Agyeman-Agyekum came fifth with 72 net, beating Geoff Fisher on count-back.

In the Ladies segment, Vida Sosu-Adatsi came first with 59 net, Yaa Konadu Safo-Debrah followed with 67 net, Francisca Vandyck took the third position with 68 net, while Miseno Amu placed fourth with 70 net, beating Joy Arkutu on count-back.

Stephen Klah emerged champion of the Professional's category with 67 gross, D. Doe placed second with 69 gross, beating A.D. Quarshie on count-back while T. K. Kodjo placed fourth with 70 gross. The one-day 18-Hole Medal Play event, which was organised in memory of Dr Kwame Nyaho Tamaklo, a senior member of the Achimota Golf Club who passed away in 2001, was sponsored by the Nyaho Medical Centre. Mr Robert Evans, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club, described the late Dr Tamaklo as an avid golfer whose contributions made the club what it is today.

"As a medical officer, he ensured that his colleagues benefited from health-related issues associated with the game and his contributions had improved the game tremendously and a befitting competition such as this championship would continue to be played in his honour in the ensuing years", he added. Dr Edem Hiadzi, Medical Director of Lister Hospital who is also a Board Member of Nyaho Medical Centre was assisted by Mr Evans to present prizes to the winners.
