Awutu-Mangoase(C/R), June 18, GNA - A total of 701 new-borne babies were recorded in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District in May this year.
Kasoa office of the Department of Birth and Death recorded the highest number of 300 births, followed by Awutu-Beraku office, 124 births, and Winneba office 113 births.
Miss Hanna Eshun, District Births and Deaths registration officer, announced these at this year's African Union (AU) Day of the African Child anniversary durbar organized by the Bawjiase Programme Area of Plan Ghana (PG) at Awutu-Mangoase, near Jei-Krodua last Friday. She sensitised nursing mothers in Mangoase area and other parts of the district on the importance of birth and death registration and advised them to register every child that they would give birth to, in future.
Mrs. Emelia Allan, Plan Ghana Area Manager for the area made it clear to couples as well as single women in the area that their failure to register their children would affect the well-being of the children. She commended school children and teachers in the area, who attended the ceremony in their numbers. Forty-six babies were registered and issued with birth certificates at the function.
