77 babies join the world in Accra

Accra, Jan. 1, GNA - Seventy-seven babies were delivered in three hospitals in Accra during the Christmas and New Year days. The deliveries, which took place at Ridge, Maamobi Polyclinic and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitals, had 40 females and 37 males with 55 normal deliveries and 12 Caesarean sessions.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms Elizabeth Keelson, Midwife at the Ridge Hospital said out of the eight deliveries on Christmas day, five were boys, and three were girls, adding, seven of the deliveries were normal and only one was caesarean session". On the New Year, seven deliveries were took place out of which four were normal and three were done through caesarean operation. At the Maamobi Polyclinic, Ms. Gifty Abbah, Nursing Officer in-charge told the GNA that 15 babies were delivered on both Christmas and the New Year.
"Six were girls and nine were boys and they were all normal deliveries", she added.
Ms Dora Narh, Principal Nursing Officer in charge of the Labour Ward at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital said out of the 47 babies delivered on both days, 19 were males and 28 were females. She said 29 of the deliveries were normal and 18 under went caesarean operation.
A visit to the Accident Centre of the hospital showed a calm atmosphere with doctors and nurses on duty attending to patients. Mrs Vida Odonkor, Nursing Officer In-Charge at the Centre told GNA that the Christmas and New Year had low casualties than the previous year. She said 57 accident cases were reported on the Christmas day with 12 being Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) and that the rest were assault cases and the victims were all responding to treatment.
