Akatsi health centre to be upgraded into hospital

Akatsi/Sogakope (V/R), Jan 27, GNA-The Akatsi health centre is among others listed for upgrading to full hospital status across the country.

Major Courage Quashigah Minister of Health announced this in an answer to a question at the Akatsi District People's Assembly on Thursday at Akatsi He said Akatsi as a district capital with a fast growing population was ripe for a hospital.

Major Quashigah said good health and quality education are vital tools for national development and necessary for the attainment of the country's vision 2015.

He criticized Ghanaians for failing to add value to local consumer items over the years and challenged the people of Akatsi to improve on the black berries, which are common in the area by producing a well-packaged fruit juice from it.

At Sogakope in the South-Tongu District, Major Quashigah described the call for a repeat of the Trans-Volta Togoland plebiscite, as recipe for disaster.

Dr Brempong Yeboah, Deputy Minister of Manpower and Employment said delays in payment of allowances to those engaged under the Youth Employment Programme was due to procedural problems and urged the youth not to be discouraged.

Mr Joseph Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister said land litigation often delayed takeoff of projects and implored the people to eschew it.

Miss Kate Aglah, South-Tongu District Chief Executive (DCE) said the assembly would soon implement the aqua culture component of the youth employment programme.

The need for the improvement of visibility on the Sogakope Bridge, raising incomes of the people to offset setbacks as a result of the construction of the Akosombo Dam and the revival of the Aveyime rice project were among concern raised by the people.
