The National Allied Health Taskforce (AHTF) is to embark on a nationwide exercise to crackdown on unlicensed practitioners and facilities.
Dr Samuel Yaw Opoku, the Registrar, has therefore asked all trained practitioners to take advantage of the ongoing registration exercise to regularize their status to avoid any inconvenience.
He was speaking at a meeting with allied health professionals in the Ashanti Region in Kumasi.
This was to brief them on the Health Professions Regulatory Bill, 2010, (Allied Health Professions Council) and help them to appreciate the need to get registered.
Dr Opoku said the bill, which would soon be put before parliament, would help streamline allied health practice and rein in quacks in the system.
He said the phase one of the registrations would end on August 31 and urged each of them register.
Dr Clement Opoku Okrah, a Member of the Taskforce, said their aim was to put in place the necessary structures towards the passage of the bill.
He said they were working hard to lobby parliament to get this done before it rises.**
