American surgeons to assist Yendi hospital

Three American surgeons including 25 nurses and non-professional health staff from Mercy and St. Louis in Missouri in America are in the Yendi Government Hospital to render a one week specialist service in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology.

The cases they are handling include all chronic and acute surgical and gynecological cases like goiter, hernia, fibroids, and tumors, among others.

The surgeons include Dr Jonathan Limpert, Dr Patricia Limpert and Dr Cariton Pearce.

Rev Emmanuel Kwabena Mustapha, the Yendi Missionary in-charge of the Ghana Baptist Convention, said this when he briefed newsmen about the exercise in the Yendi Government Hospital.

He said the surgical and gynecological outreach programme is organized by the Yendi Hospital Management in collaboration with the Baptist Church of Yendi.

The team leader Rev Joe Nogalski said they were happy that through the relationship with Christ they were able to bring the doctors together to provide health services to the people adding that this exercise might be an annual affair.

Mr Arthony Sopaal, the Government Hospital Clinical Care Coordinator, who represented the Yendi Medical Superintendent, said they screened 160 patients and sent 96 of the patients for the surgery.

He said, in all the surgeons are expected to deal with 100 cases within the period which started from 10th February 2013.

He said the hospital lacked personnel and that if the media can reduce their focus on politics and discuss the concerns of the rural areas, more could be achieved.
