Staff of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital say they will consider a request by the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu for a three-month period to investigate the conduct of the Medical Director of the hospital.

A nurse at the hospital Emmanuel Ofori, who was part of a team that met the Health Minister today said the staff are ready to comply with the Ministry’s request as they expect a thorough audit of the facility to investigate allegations of impropriety levelled against Dr Eugene Dordoye.

Staff of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital have accused Dr Dordoye of misappropriating funds and disrespecting staff of the hospital.

The staff who want the removal of Dr. Dordoye began a sit down strike after the Ministry failed to act on their petition. An apology from the Director aggravated issues as the staff said he was insincere and must be sacked from his post.

Emmanuel Ofori in an interview with ghanaweb.com after a closed-door meeting with the Health Ministry said the leadership the hospital would ask the rest of the staff to exercise patience while the investigations go on.

He believes that ample evidence would be gathered to back their allegations against Dr. Dordoye.

“We will plead with them to exercise restraint and at least listen to the call of the Minster. What the Minister said was that just this year alone he has asked five Directors to step aside, he does not want to continue to set that bad precedence so basically he is pleading with us to give him [Medical Director] three months’ probation,” he said.

Mr Ofori however, disclosed that the Minister has assured the staff that if the Medical Director of the facility does not change within the three months period, he will not hesitate to kick him out.
