Association donates to Weija Leprosarium

The Awisa-Apaaso Citizens’ Association (AACA) has donated items worth GH¢5,000.00 to the inmates of the Weija Leprosarium in Accra.

The items included a box of mineral water, a carton of milk, a bag of rice, gallons of cooking oil, clothing, a bag of washing powder and toiletries.

Mr. Oduro Minta, Chairman of the Association, told the Ghana News Agency the donation was part of the Association’s spiritual obligation to support the needy in society.

He said the donation was to enable the inmates feel accepted as part of the society and not to feel socially stigmatized.

The Chairman encouraged the inmates not to lose hope in their current situation but rely on the almighty God for the best.

He commended management of the Leprosarium and the team of caretakers for their devotion and love for the inmates.

Mr. Minta said the Association, which comprised of two communities of Akyem Awisa and Apaaso was formed by the citizens who were resident in Tema and Accra to provide developmental projects to the communities.

“So far we have provided projects to the communities, notable among them is the construction of bole hole to supply water to the entire community,” he added.

He expressed the readiness of the Association to assist the home in anyway possible.

Members of the Association also took the opportunity to pray with the inmates for good health.

Auntie Adobea, the class prefect for the home, who received the items on behalf of Father Andrew Campbell thanked the management of AACA for the donation, and called on other corporate institutions to come to the aid of the inmates.
