The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Brong-Ahafo has attained 1,216,276 members and this is the 2015 total of registered members.
The figure, being the third highest in the country, represents 48 per cent coverage of the region’s population, Mr Aminu Yakubu, the acting Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has said.
Mr Yakubu, who was speaking at the opening of the 2015 performance review meeting of the Scheme, said all the Districts in the Region exceeded their premium targets, culminating in the region’s recording of GH¢ 5,821,126.00.
The two-day meeting, attended by all the 29 District Managers in the region deliberated on issues and challenges relating to the Region’s performance and identified strategies for solutions to sustain the Scheme.
Mr Yakubu said the Region also paid GH¢ 66, 361,336.05 claims at 3, 347, 368 utilisation for Out Patient Department (OPD) and In- Patient Department (IPD).
He said a total amount of GH¢ 13,195,011.54 were paid as claims to all providers for the period spanning July 2014 to June 2015 and gave the assurance that the NHIA was committed to clear all outstanding claims.
Mr Yakubu commended the staff in the Region for their commitment and dedication in spite of all the challenges and called on all stakeholders to continue in educating the general public about the NHIA’s policy guidelines and procedures.
Sunyani Municipal, Kintampo South and Jaman North emerged as the best performing Districts in the Region and were rewarded with certificates of honour.
