Ms Yvonne Ablorh-Quarcoo, the President, Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu, has said that blood donation was a civic responsibility and urged the public to donate blood voluntarily to help save lives.
She said the donation of blood was a worthy cause as well as an utmost gift to society at all times.
“Blood donation is everybody’s duty, be a hero and donate blood because it’s a gift of life,” she said.
Ms Ablorh-Quarcoo said this during a blood donation exercise organized by the Rotary Club of Accra-Dzorwulu (RCAD), in collaboration with the A and C Mall in Accra on Saturday.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, she said the blood donation, which would be an annual project, forms part of RCAD’s scheduled activities marking its first anniversary as well as the Club's corporate social responsibility to respond to the needs of the less-privileged in society, especially in the area of health and education.
“We are also organising this voluntary exercise, which is not painful to do and can be done in every four months, to augment the National Blood Bank, as it is always in need of blood” she said.
She said the RCAD aims at getting 100 units of blood and had also targeted 100 voluntary donors to make the exercise a success.
Donors had the privilege of undergoing free medical screening.
Ms Ablorh-Quarcoo said the RCAD would also be donating books to its adopted school in the metropolis.
