C/R to get new Regional Hospital

The Central Regional Minister Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah has disclosed that government will soon commence the construction of a new Regional Hospital following the upgrade of the existing regional hospital to a teaching hospital.

“As it stands now, we do not have a regional hospital.” Interbeton" is now a teaching hospital. Many have called for the Metro Hospital to be upgraded into a regional hospital but we insisted we needed a new regional hospital,” he stated.

He explained that the idea of upgrading the metropolitan hospital into a regional hospital was rejected because of its proximity to the sea, adding that, most of the equipment would have to be changed periodically.

For this reason the Regional Coordinating Council has asked the chiefs to allocate a place to ensure immediate commencement of the project.

Mr Quansah disclosed this in a meeting of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Regional Executives, Regional Communication Team and the media from the Region in Cape Coast on Sunday.

The meeting which was attended by some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives from the Region discussed developmental projects being undertaken by the government in the Region.

He acknowledged that these were difficult times but urged all to rally behind the government in its efforts in making lives comfortable.

The Regional Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman said in his constituency alone the government has constructed ten new CHPS compounds indicating it commitment to the health needs of the people in the Region.

The Minister noted that media played a very important role in sensitizing the public on the works done by the government and charged the journalists to criticize constructively when there was the need to criticize.

He hinted that plans were underway to organize a capacity building workshop for media practitioners in the Region to update their knowledge on their chosen field.
