Accra, Aug. 8, GNA - The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Wednesday advised the public against patronising an unregistered brand of a herbal product labelled "Moringa-The Gift of Nature" and asked its manufacturers to withdraw it.
A statement signed by Mr Emmanuel K. Agyarko, Chief Executive of FBB, said although Visco Enterprise of Mamprobi in Accra was said to be the manufacturer, the full address on the label was illegal and difficult to trace.
According to the statement the packaged product in a powdery form had been labelled as a preventive for 300 diseases. It said although the Board recognised Moringa plant as having health benefits, it did not approve or allow unproven and spurious health claims on products.
"Producers, dealers, distributors and retailers of the said product are advised to immediately withdraw the product from the market. It is an offence to offer for sale regulated products that had not been registered with FDB," the statement said.
The Board further assured the public that it was taking all the necessary regulatory steps to ensure the withdrawal of the product and impose the necessary sanctions. 8 Aug. 07
