Nkoranza (B/A), April 19, GNA - Mr Daniel Yando, an Agricultural Extension Officer, has advised the citizenry to rely more on honey as food sweetener rather than sugar to promote their mental development. He said research had shown that honey had the right contents to sharpen the brain of infants.
Mr Yando who made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza said the intake of honey would also serve as a means of livelihood for the over 50 beekeepers in Nkoranza and Techiman who has no market for their produce.
He said the abundant harvest was due to a training course on "Project Management", organised for the farmers through the support of African Development Fund (ADF).
Mr Yando said ADF provided credit facilities in the form of beehives, suits and smokers to the beneficiary farmers. Mr Michael Sarpong, Secretary of the local Bee Association appealed to the Government to promote the marketing of honey by establishing a purchasing agency for the product.
He advised the members of the Association to repay the 1.2 million-cedi credit facility, each of them acquired from the ADF.
