The Food and Drugs Authority, (FDA) upon a tip off have found a consignment of unwholesome chicken parts dumped at a refuse dumping site at Teshie, a suburb of Accra.
FDA Investigation has revealed that some residents of the area have taken possession of part of the consignment.
A statement signed by John Odame-Darkwah, Acting Deputy Chief Executive (Food division) said on Tuesday.
It said to ensure that the consignment of unwholesome chicken parts do not find its way onto the market, the FDA with the assistance of the Teshie Police conducted a search and confiscated all such products for subsequent safe disposal.
Residents who were in possession of the unwholesome chicken parts have been handed over to the police for investigation to be conducted so as to identify the source of the consignment of unwholesome chicken parts, it said.
“The FDA likes to advise the… public especially those living within the Teshie environs to be extra cautious and buy only from trustworthy sources and not from itinerant traders, as the consumption of such products can lead to serious health problems.”
FDA asked the public to volunteer any information, which would help in the investigation and lead to the arrest of those who dumped the unwholesome chicken parts at the dumping site.
The Authority assured the public that it would continue to do all in its power to protect public health and safety.
The FDA extended its appreciation to the media for the information, which led to the investigations.
