Kumasi, March 28, GNA- A total of 70 people benefited from free eye screening at Pramso in the Bosomtwe Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.
The exercise was carried out by a team of Doctors from St. Michael's Catholic Hospital in Pramso on Friday, as part of activities to mark the 50th anniversary celebration of the health institution. The head of the team, Reverend Sister Mary Owusu-Frimpong told the Ghana News Agency after the workshop that the exercise was aimed at ascertaining the extent of eye sight infections in the town. She said it also served as an avenue to sensitize the public on common eye diseases as cataract, allergy, glaucoma, refractive errors, cornea ulcer among others.
Rev Owusu-Frimpong said out of the 70 people screened, five were referred to the Hospital while the remaining were given anti-biotics. She urged the people, especially those engaged in risky jobs such as welding and carpentry to frequently go for eye screening, take good care of their eyes, eat balanced diet and to report to the hospital early in case of eye problems. 28 March 08
