Integration of HIV/AIDS in school curriculum

Jema (B/A), March 01, GNA - A three-day workshop on the integration of the teaching of HIV/AIDS into Junior High School curriculum in Kintampo South District of Brong Ahafo has been opened at Jema. About 137 participants drawn from six circuits in the district are attending the workshop, organized by Kintampo South Education Directorate with support from the Department for International Development (DfID).

Mr. Yaw Adjei-Duffour, District Chief Executive, in an opening address expressed appreciation for the workshop, saying it was the best intervention for children in formative ages to grow to become responsible citizens.

He entreated teachers to be role models and not only to impart knowledge to the children who looked up to them for guidance.

The DCE gave assurance of the Assembly's support towards the development of education in the area and asked the teachers to help explain government policies and programmes to the people. Mr. Enoch Osei-Sarfo, Kintampo South district director of education, asked the participants to attach importance to the workshop to ensure continued donor support for the success of future programmes of the Ghana Education Service.

He urged the teachers to redouble efforts to help raise the standard of education in the district and to encourage parents to enroll their children in schools.

Mr. Hammond Peter Yeboah, the district training officer of Ghana Education Service said the workshop was the second in a series to educate teachers in the area about the pandemic. Nana Adu-Boffour Gyan, Nkosuohene of Jema, who presided, urged the participants to be agents of change in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
