Lordina urges chiefs to support healthcare delivery

Mrs. Lordina Mahama, the First Lady, has appealed to chiefs and other influential persons to show strong support towards efforts at improving healthcare to the people.

She noted that despite the enormous investment that had gone into the provision of medical services throughout the country, there remained health facilities in deprived areas that needed to be assisted to operate more efficiently.

The First Lady who was in the Ashanti Region to present medical supplies running into thousands of cedis to seven selected district hospitals made the call at a durbar held in her honour at Juaso in the Asante-Akim South District.

The Saint Martin’s Hospital at Agroyesum, Ejura Government Hospital, the St. Patrick’s Hospital at Offinso, Mampong Government Hospital, Ejisu Government Hospital, Bomfa/Achiase Health Centre and Juaso Government Hospital benefitted.

Among the items they received were orthopaedic beds and mattresses, gloves, syringes, bandages, plastic adhesives, theatre masks, blood collectors, isolated gowns, stabilizers, patient-care kits and wheelchairs.

These were procured by the Foundation she had set up, “Lordina Foundation”, in partnership with a United States (US)-based group – MEDSAHRE.

Mrs. Mahama was in the region for two days as part of her stepped up campaign to improve the health of the people.

She said together with her Foundation’s local and international supporters, they were determined to equip hospitals, clinics and polyclinics across the nation with essential logistics and equipment.

She used the occasion to remind the people to maintain clean environment, eat wholesome foods and reduce unhealthy practices.

The government was doing its best to improve the quality of healthcare delivery and there were a lot “we can do as a people to stay healthy and lead good lives”.

She urged the beneficiary hospitals to use the medical supplies to the benefit of patients.
