Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema Central Constituency, Hon. Kofi Brako, has commissioned a one-hundred and twenty-five million Ghana cedi maternity block for the Tema General Hospital.
At a ceremony to commission the building, the MP said he was appalled at the sight of seeing pregnant women and nursing mothers standing at the old block to access healthcare.
According to Mr. Brako, there was the need for all stakeholders and government to put up modern buildings to befit the status of a general hospital.
According to him, the hospital served major cases in Tema and its surrounding areas but lacked certain facilities, thus affecting its work as a health facility.
He also donated over 200 state-of-the-art hospital chairs to complement the old ones.
He revealed that his next line of action would be to complete the abandoned maternity block that would accommodate hundreds of pregnant women who patronise the health facility.
Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Edusei Poku, thanked the MP for the support he has given to the hospital and called on others to do same.
He lamented the lack of basic hospital facilities that hamper health care delivery at the hospital.
Dr. Edusei-Poku noted that considering the location of the hospital, its current status does not befit a general hospital, and therefore made a passionate appeal to philanthropists and the government to put up modern buildings and facilities at the Tema General Hospital.
