Accra, Feb. 7, GNA - The management of Plan Ghana, a child-centred community development NGO, has presented a cheque for 5,000 dollars to the Management of Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) towards the treatment of a 14-year-old patient.
FOCOS, a spine-related treatment hospital located at East Legon in Accra, diagnosed 14-year-old Brigitte Koranteng of Accra with a spinal complication this year and would require the amount to undergo a surgical operation. The family of Brigitte, following the diagnosis, made an appeal throug= h the media for financial support towards cost of the treatment. Mr Samuel Paulos, Country Director of Plan Ghana, presenting the chequ= e to the management of FOCOS said Plan Ghana decided to support Ms Koranteng because of her plight.
He called on well-meaning philanthropists and organisations to support such a worthy cause to give children the chance to realise their full potential. "We hope that by this gesture, other philanthropists and organisatio= ns will come on board to support children with such difficulties," Mr Paulos added. Dr Paulette Opoku, Administrator of FOCOS receiving the cheque on behalf of management, thanked management of Plan Ghana and gave the assurance that Brigitte would receive the best of treatment. Mrs Koranteng, mother of Brigitte, thanked management of Plan Ghana an= d the media for the support and expressed the hope that her daughter would regain her normal life. Plan Ghana has been working in Ghana since 1992, helping poor children to access their rights to health, education, food security and protection. Its programmes have benefited about 30,000 children in 300 communities across the country. 7
