Hope for Future Generations, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has launched a malaria education programme for children in deprived communities in eight regions of the country.
Mr Emmanuel Nuworzah, a volunteer of the organisation, who made this known in Takoradi, listed the regions as the Volta, Western, Greater Accra, Eastern, Brong- Ahafo, Upper West, Upper East and Northern.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency at the commemoration of this year’s World Malaria Day, Mr Nuworzah said children were educated about malaria and how to prevent the disease.
He said children are vulnerable to malaria and the education is to help reduce the incidence of the disease among them.
Mr Nuworsah said malaria is the number one cause of absenteeism of children at schools and the programme is to bring about behaviourial change in them in order to prevent infection.
He said the organisation has programmes on tuberculosis maternal health and HIV for deprived communities in the eight regions.
