NHIA shuts down Wenchi SHS Clinic

NHIANHIA

The Brong Ahafo Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sebastian Alagpulins, has ordered the Wenchi Senior High School Clinic to be closed down because the facility is not accredited by the authority.

The chairman of the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), Agyenim Boateng, revealed this during a press conference which took on Wednesday.

Mr Boateng expressed dismay at the NHIA for ordering the school to close the facility which has been operating under a very hygienic condition for one year now, with the excuse that the clinic is not accredited by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

According to him, the PTA only thought it wise to build the facility to assuage the suffering of sick students who used to visit the Wenchi Methodist Hospital where they usually queued for a long time before receiving medical attention.

He hinted that the school had assigned some doctors and nurses from the Methodist Hospital to treat the students and that arrangement was going on very well until the order from the NHIA boss.

He has appealed to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and the NHIA to investigate the matter so that the truth could be ascertained to enable management of the school to handle effectively the health issues of its students.
