Need for policy on sectoral collaboration

Accra, June 7, GNA - Government and stakeholders in the health sector have been asked to formulate a policy on inter-sectoral collaboration for efficient and effective health care delivery in the country.

Mrs Rebecca Ackwonu, Public Relations Officer of Ghana Health Service (GHS), made the call in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra. She said there was no policy for State and public institutions in the health sector to collaborate on issues affecting health care delivery.

Mrs Ackwonu noted that some health problems had persisted because individual institutions and organisations tried to solve health problems without considering the contributions of other related institutions and organisations.

She observed that most of the problems related to health care were linked to the attitudes of people and the environment in the communities. Mrs Ackwonu called for intensification on the education on hand washing with soap regularly after using the washroom, after attending funerals, by food vendors and the public to prevent transmission of diseases.

She appealed to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to collaborate with the GHS to ensure sanity and certification of food vendors in the communities as well as collaborating with chiefs and religious leaders to educate the people at the local and community levels.
