Pharmaceutical Society organizes health screening at Abono

Abono (Ash), Aug. 10, GNA - The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana has organized a free health outreach programme for about 12,000 people at Abono and its nearby communities along the Bosomtwe Lake, in the Bosomtwe District.

It formed part of the Society's Diamond Jubilee Celebration, which is being held on the theme: 93PSGH at 75 - Celebrating the contributions of pharmacists to national development."

Mr Charles Anane, the Regional Chairman, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that more than GH¢20,000.00 worth of drugs were purchased for the programme with 93Pharmanova", a drug manufacturing company, as the main sponsor.

The people were diagnosed and given drugs for malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and worm infestation.

Mr Anane said about 200 pharmacists including clinical pharmacists were engaged to give treatment, consultation and counseling.

He expressed worry about the fact that most of the people screened were under-weight, a situation he attributed to the high rate of alcohol consumption and bad nutrition.

Mr Anane urged the people to always embrace preventive health care to improve on their health.

Nana Otu-Antwi Bosiako, Chief of Abono, appealed to the people to ensure personal hygiene and invest in the education of their children to give them a better and secured future.
