Radiologist counsels regular prostate cancer screening

Dr Kwasi Ankomah, a Radiologist at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has advised regular prostate cancer screening.

This, he said, would aid early detection of the disease and the right therapies to deal with.

It was necessary to diagnose the cancer early enough and the extent of spread to help tackle it.

Prostate cancer often causes difficulty and pain when urinating or having sex, as well as erectile dysfunction.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is the sixth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men and tends to affect mostly adult males, over the age of 50 years.

Dr Ankomah made these known at a health screening exercise organized for members of the Ghana National Flour Users Association (GNFUA) at the Rexmar Hotel in Kumasi on Wednesday.

They were screened for breast and prostate cancer, high blood pressure and glaucoma.

On hand to do this, were a team of medical professionals from the KATH.

Dr Ankomah encouraged the people to embrace preventive health care, adding that, it was in their interest to lead healthy lifestyles.

Mrs Comfort Akotuah, the Ashanti Regional President of the GNFUA, asked them to take health issues seriously.
