Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit commended

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Trade and Industry, has commended the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for its good works.

He said the centre had put smiles on the faces of many people from Ghana and beyond through the performance of reconstructive surgery.

Mr Iddrisu gave the commendation in a speech read for him by Mr Ansah Agyei, Chief Director of the Ministry, at the Ghana Export Promotion Authority’s (GEPA) 23rd National Awards for Export Achievement-2012, on Friday.

It was on the theme; “Providing Sustainable Motivation for Export Excellence”.

He said in addition to making people smile again, the services of the centre had contributed to foreign exchange generation in Ghana.

“I thank them and all other hardworking men and women in the non-traditional export sector who, in spite of all challenges in the international market place, have persevered,” he said.

Mr Iddrisu said government would devote resources to the GEPA in 2014, to strengthen its work in all sectors.

He said the resources would cover identification of services where Ghana had a comparative advantage, and prepare providers to access those markets.

Dr Opoku-Ware Ampomah, Director of the Korle Bu Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Unit, was honoured for his esteemed contribution in promoting reconstructive plastic surgery.
