Mr. Emil Anornu, Principal Blood Donor Organizer of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital has said regular blood donation helped the body to stay healthier and stronger.
This, he said, was because the donor was taken through free laboratory checks to know his health status, whereas fresh blood were produced by the system to replace the donated one.
Mr. Anornu made these remarks during a blood donation exercise, organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to mark this year's Republic Day celebration in Takoradi
Mr Anornu disclosed that currently, the blood bank has a stock that can last for two weeks, and what is more dreadful is the lack of the "O" group, a type used by all patients.
The Principal Blood Donor Organizer said the ratio of one donor per week, was not helping, adding, "at least we need 10 donors."
Mr. Anornu added that blood donation always renewed the body, and made one fit for any activity.
He, therefore, encouraged churches and corporate bodies to regularly donate to the bank.
Mr. Richard Osei, First Counsellor to become President of the Takoradi Church, noted that the gesture formed part of their humanitarian programmes.
He added that twice in a year, the church supports the blood bank in catering for the blood needs of the region.
