Stephen Eku, CEO of Emigoh Ghana Limited – producers of Yomi Yoghurt – has charged Ghanaians to eat well and engage in regular physical exercise in order to keep themselves healthy.
He said, in spite of the busy schedules the working class are grappling with, it is imperative to constantly look for simple, fun and creative means of eating well and expending energy.
“Weight gain or any disease that comes as a result of sedentary life are prevented by making an effort to exercise at the least opportunity,” he said. “Exercising is not only by going to the gym, you can keep fit by walking more in the office or even choosing to use the staircase instead of the elevator.”
Mr Eku said this when Emigoh committed to sponsor The Hunt, a 13.2km health walk up the Aburi Hills, organized in support of the Kidney Care Project.
Mr Eku, who also took part in the maiden edition of the walk, said the company’s decision to be associated with the Hunt was that they found it to be in line with the company’s corporate social initiative – health and nutrition. For the past 15 years, Emigoh has been committed to sponsoring programmes that promote good health. They also organize health seminars at gyms and offices, in a bid to advocate for the importance of regular exercise and healthy diet.
“The most powerful medicine we take every day is the food we eat,” he said. “What you eat has the power to either make you fat or slim and can either heal or destroy your organs.”
According to Mr Eku, the ingredients in Emigoh’s yoghurt products are carefully selected to ensure that they offered a balanced mix of nutrients such as calcium, protein, vitamins and dietary fibre.
Yoghurt, he said, is one of the top health foods because it contains probiotics which help in fighting cholesterol, blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome and other infections.
He said Emigoh’s products stand apart from other types of yoghurt in the market that have been heated to kill the probiotics. Aside its flagship brand, Yomi Yoghurt, the company comes up with other innovative brands to suit various lifestyles. Yayo yoghurt, for instance is made from non-dairy products for vegans and vegetarians.
Mr Eku urged more corporate bodies to join the subsequent edition of the Hunt. The Hunt health walk is complemented with aerobics and a health talk on how to prevent kidney diseases. Participants also get to interact with kidney patients who share their experience.
