The Rotary Club of Accra-Kanda and other Rotary and Rotaract clubs, in collaboration with the Me BOAFO Foundation, successfully held a medical screening exercise at Asamankese in the Eastern Region on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

This humanitarian endeavour, held at the West Akim Municipal Assembly, drew over 200 beneficiaries who underwent vital health checks, including eye tests, breast cancer screenings, and educational sessions on healthy lifestyle practices.

According to Rotarian President Isaac Darko-Mensah of Accra-Kanda, “Today’s event is a testament to the power of community service and collaboration. We are grateful for the support from our partner clubs and the Me BOAFO Foundation, whose collective efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of our beneficiaries.” The exercise was part of the Rotary Club’s broader initiative to promote health awareness and education among underserved communities.

Beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the free medical services, citing the financial constraints that often prevent them from accessing healthcare. “I was diagnosed with a vision problem and received free medication,” said one local resident.

“This screening has been a blessing; I can now see clearly and continue my daily activities without struggle.” Another beneficiary praised the comprehensive nature of the screening, stating, “The breast cancer screening and education were particularly valuable. I’ve learned so much about prevention and early detection.”

The medical screening exercise also provided an opportunity for community members to engage with healthcare professionals and Rotary Club members. “We’re not just providing medical services; we’re building relationships and fostering trust within the community,” noted Rotarian Darko-Mensah.

The success of the event underscores the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in addressing healthcare disparities. As emphasized by a beneficiary, “This initiative shows that we’re not alone; there are organizations and individuals who care about our well-being.” The Rotary Club of Accra-Kanda and other Rotary and Rotaract clubs remain committed to their mission of promoting healthy lifestyles and improving the quality of life for vulnerable populations.

In closing, President Darko-Mensah reaffirmed the Rotary Club’s dedication to serving humanity. He also expressed sincere gratitude to the various clubs and presidents who supported the initiative.

“As Rotarians, we believe that every individual deserves access to quality healthcare. Today’s exercise is just the beginning; we’ll continue to work tirelessly to make a positive difference in our communities.”

“I am extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of Weija-West, Rotary Club of Accra-Trinity, Rotary Club of Accra-Achimota, Rotaract Club of Weija, Rotaract Club of Accra Adabraka, and Rotaract Club of Somanya-UESD for their support and contribution. We wouldn’t have been here without them. RP Joseph – Accra-Achimota and RP Ritchie – Accra-Trinity played pivotal roles in the success of the event. I am also grateful to them,” he noted.

RP Darko-Mensah again commended Rotarian Maxwell (Service Project Chair, Accra-Kanda) for his exemplary leadership and qualities. “He worked behind the scenes and made sure we organized a successful event,” he stressed.

With its unwavering commitment to service, the Rotary Club of Accra-Kanda, along with others, is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals in the Eastern Region and beyond.
