A Banker, Rebecca Kyei Antwi, has sued the Sakumono Community Hospital for negligence following what could be termed as an ‘illegal’ surgery was performed on her when she visited the facility for medical care.
According to the lady who is also a musician, a nurse allowed a security man at the hospital to stitch her injured hand when she was rushed to the facility for medical care on the 17th May, 2015. The injury subsequently got worse following the alleged dodgy operation.
The patient (plaintiff) is claiming damages of GHc100,000 for pain and suffering sustained as a result of the defendants’ negligence and medical expenses amounting to GHc10,000.
The plaintiff had sustained a deep cut on her right arm from her broken glass table and had been rushed to the hospital by her husband, Stephen Kyei Antwi for medical care on the 17th May, 2015 at about 3 pm.
However, after being examined, the doctor on duty, Dr. Paul O. Botsio, recommended that the injured hand of Rebecca be stitched. The nurse on duty, Patience Odempten led the patient to the injection room where the security man, Brain Agbozo administered an injection to the plaintiff and subsequently performed the suturing (stitching).
Until the stitching developed some complications, the plaintiff had no idea that the supposed health personnel who had done the stitching, was a security man. Subsequent visit to the hospital to complain about how complicated the injured arm of Rebecca had become, revealed that the gentleman who did the first surgery was a security man at the hospital.
The Plaintiff who is currently receiving medical care at the 37 Military Hospital, asserts that if she had not gone to the 37 Military Hospital in time, she could have lost her wrist due to infections.
She tells Atinka FM’s Regina Asamoah that the negligent conduct of the hospital attendants has caused her emotional and psychological trauma as well as disfigurement of the affected area.
The case has been filed at the Human Rights Division of the High Court.
Seven officers of the hospital have also been sued.
