The School of Peri-Operative and Critical Care Nursing School, Korle-Bu, as part of its 20 years anniversary celebrations, has held a free health screening exercise for the people of Glefe in the Ablekuma West District of the Greater Accra region.

The screening saw hundreds of patrons tested for eye problems, malaria and other non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and weight issues.

Beneficiaries were equally counselled on healthy lifestyles, as well as family planning methods.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of screening exercise, the Principal of the School, Dr. Kwaku Asante Krobea disclosed that the event is a classic demonstration of what the school stands for.

He noted that as the only Peri-Operative and Critical Care Nursing institution in the country, it is important it connects with the communities such as Glefe, where preventive healthcare is needed.

“We believe that where people are most densely populated, their healthcare needs are profound so we choose Glefe. There are people who have their basic health care needs unmet yet it is difficult to get them convinced that indeed, they should consider it as important, and offer themselves for health screening,”Dr. Asante Krobea said.

Throwing more light on the school , he said the school in its 20-year journey, have trained specialized health workers working in facilities both home and beyond.

He noted that to celebrate this milestone, management of the School, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, intend to use the opportunity to create awareness of and about the importance of critical care nursing, and also honour deserving persons and institutions that have over the last 20 years supported the School and the provision of quality services and care in the health sector.

The School admits registered nurses with at least three years post working experience, and is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast, award degrees in Bachelor of Science Nursing (Peri-Operative) and Bachelor of Science Nursing (Critical Care).
