Subject yourself to inconvenience now to prevent malaria - MP-elect

Mr Alhassan Mumuni, Member of Parliament-elect for Salaga North, has said it was better for beneficiaries of the Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Net (LLITN) to subject themselves to certain inconvenience rather than refuse to use the net.

“It is in the interest of our health to adapt to the warm condition by sleeping in the LLITN than to reject it and contract malaria through bites from the female anopheles mosquitoes,” he said.

He said this during the 3rd General Assembly Meeting by the East Gonja District Assembly in Salaga recently to discuss and share ideas on how to develop the area as well as improve the livelihood of the people.

Mr Mumuni urged the Assembly members to educate community members not to under-utilize the mosquito net hug-up projects.

He announced that Salaga-Makango road had been packaged under the three billion China Loan contracted by government, adding that evaluation of bids was on-going and the contract would soon be awarded for work to start.

“Already work on the 114-kilometer Tamale-Salaga road is steadily progressing while other feeder roads including Kpalbe-Nyeshila, Bunjia-Kidengi road are also on-going,” he said.

On electricity, Mr Mumuni said the Self-Help Electrification Project being executed by government would soon be completed to pave way for the second phase.

He appealed to the Ghana Education Service to appoint a substantive District Educational Director to promote discipline, effective and efficient teaching and learning.

“Although the Savelugu Director is mandated to be an interim care taker, the absence of a dedicated Director is derailing teaching and learning,” he said.

Mr Mohammed Jakpa, Presiding Member of the East Gonja District encouraged Assembly members to make use of block farm project to help improve their livelihood.
