The Takoradi Port with support from Subsea 7 have constructed a three bedroom and toilet facilities nurse’s quarters for the New Takoradi Health Centre.
Also, the Health Centre has been rehabilitated by the Port- land scaping and construction of fence wall for security and beautification of the premises will be done soon.
The construction of the nurse’s quarters and the rehabilitation of the Health Centre is as a result of a need assessment by a committee comprising of the New Takoradi people and Takoradi Port in October 2016.
The Port decided to pick on a project under health -already, under the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Port, there is health, education, sanitation and environment.
Mr. George Ohene Bredu, Acting Director of Takoradi Port at the handing over of the nurse’s quarters key to the chief and people of New Takoradi said -we are happy that we have been able to fulfill this project into a completion stage.
“It is the desire of the Takoradi Port to help in the development of the community in which its operate at all times” he added.
Nana Kwesi Abakah, Chief of New Takoradi was happy the project has come to fruition and hope the nurse’s quarters will enable more nurses on duty at night to work effectively and efficiently.
He expressed hope that companies within the catchment area will put their resources together to construct a hospital for the New Takoradi Community – if we have a hospital here, there will be no need to seek medical attention elsewhere.
Dr. Frank Kessie, Snr. Physician Assistant at the New Takoradi Health Centre expressed gratitude to the Takoradi Port for fulfilling its promise.
However, he mentioned parking space, ambulance bay, walk way, and fencing of the health Centre, Reproductive Child Health (RDF) centre for child weighing and family planning among others as some of the challenges and urged organizations operating in the area to support them.
