Tema, Jan. 2, GNA - A total of 37 babies were born at the Tema General Hospital during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Out of the number, 29 were delivered on Christmas day while eight babies were ushered into the world on New Year's Day. Dr Mrs Charity Sarpong, Medical Superintendent of the hospital told the Ghana News Agency on Friday that the Christmas deliveries included a set of twins. Dr Mrs Sarpong said the 29 was made up of 11 males and 18 females, adding that, 26 were spontaneous delivery while three were through caesarean session. The first delivery on the Christmas day, a boy, was recorded at 0240 hours with a birth weight of 2.7 kilogrammes. She said the babies and their mothers who were medically fit have been discharged.
On the New Year deliveries, the Medical Superintendent stated that the eight deliveries were made up of one male and seven females. The first delivery, which was a girl, was recorded at 0003 hours with a birth weight of 3.5 kilogrammes and medically fit. Five of the deliveries were spontaneous while three were through caesarean sessions.
