Dr Darius Kofi Osei, General Manager of The Trust Hospital, has called on Ghanaians to take active interest in regular exercises to stay healthy at all times.
He said Ghanaian workers could increase productivity and contribute to national development only if they are healthy and of sound mind.
Dr Osei made the call at the end of The Trust Hospital Welfare Association Health Walk in Accra.
The walk, led by Professor Hector Addo, Board Chairman of the Hospital, formed part of activities marking the Association’s Week celebration, which is on the theme ‘’Championing Quality Healthcare for a Healthy Lifestyle’’.
It started from the El-Wak Stadium to the Aviation Social Centre, through the Opeibea House to the Airport City and back to the starting point.
About 500 participants, drawn from corporate bodies and institutions, as well the general public and keep fit clubs took part in the five-kilometre walk.
Dr Osei said the aim of the walk was to create awareness for the public to embrace quality healthcare and lead healthy lifestyles.
He said the hospital recorded no maternal death in the 1,300 cases treated last year, and that, from January to July this year, no death had also been recorded in the many cases treated.
The General Manager assured Ghanaians that the hospital would continue to deliver quality healthcare at all times.
Dr Thomas Adu-Nsiah, Chairman of the association, said for many years, the hospital had celebrated the Annual Week internally but decided to involve the public this year, since quality healthcare had been an issue in the country.
Mr Abdul Karim-Hatsu, Chairman of the El-Wak Keep Fit Club appealed to Ghanaians to control their eating habit, since it could have health implications.
The walk was sponsored by Unibank Ghana Limited with support from Nestle Ghana Limited.
