Tullow Ghana Limited has donated GH¢10,000.00 to the Urology Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The donation is to enable the Urology Department to conduct extensive research on prostate cancer Ms. Bernice Natue, Communications Manager of Tullow Ghana, said at the presentation at Korle Bu.
She said the donation showed the company’s commitment to give back to society and also affirmed its resolve to help improve the health Sector.
Ms Natue said the money was raised by staff of the company through an internal campaign dubbed “Movember” week, an Australian tradition where male staff of the company shave their beards to mobilize funds in support of a social cause.
He said Tullow Ghana had adopted “Movember” initiative and would ensure that it is institutionalized within its corporate programmes to ensure that more people benefit from it.
Dr. James Edward Mensah, Head of Urology Department at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital who received the cheque, thanked Tullow Ghana for the donation.
He said the amount would help build capacity to treat the prostate cancer through extensive research.
“Men with this disease have a miserable lifeand there are more numbers thronging to the hospital daily. There is therefore the need for research and extensive education, that is why Tullow’s support comes in handy,” he said.
Dr. Mensah advised the public to desist from from over reliance on herbal concoctions.
