US Embassy organises health fair for workers

Accra, March 2, GNA - The United States Embassy on Thursday held a health fair for all persons working with US agencies and departments in the country.

The programme, which is the second in the series of health programmes designed by the Embassy, is to promote and ensure quality health status for its workers and their families. US Ambassador, Ms Pamela Bridgewater said her government was not only interested in promoting and providing education and other humanitarian services, but was also committed to ensuring the total development of its own staff.

She said she was happy about the high level of patronage as compared to the first fair held last year and commended the organisers for a good work done.

Various health institutions including the C and J Medicare Hospital, Lister Hospital and Fertility Centre, Robert and Sons Limited, Holy Trinity Medical Centre and Nyaho Medical Centre were there to offer free services and consultation.

Services including counselling on breast; prostrate and cervical cancers as well as HIV/AIDS were offered. Other services like oral and dental care, testing for blood sugar; HB, blood type and HIV/AIDS as well as body massaging were also offered.

Ms Bridgewater urged all workers to ensure regular medical check-ups in order to stay healthy and also to help to stem the advancement of illnesses and complications that could otherwise be prevented with early detection.

The Ambassador, who participated in a blood donation exercise, appealed to others to also donate to help to replenish stocks of the Blood Bank of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
