Upper Denkyira assembly to provide clinics

Dunkwa-On-Offin (C/R), Feb 6, GNA - The Upper Denkyira District Assembly spent more than 860 million cedis in the last four years to construct six new health facilities in the area. Mr Richard Anane Adabor, the District Chief Executive, who announced this, said the provision of those facilities formed part of the assembly's commitment to provide access to healthcare within every five-kilometre distance.

He was speaking at a ceremony at Dunkwa-On-Offin at which Dunkwa branch of the Ghana Association of Small-Scale Gold Miners (GASSGM) donated furniture valued at 30 million cedis to the Upper Denkyira District Health Directorate for the Buabin clinic.

The items included 10 stuffed chairs, wardrobes, beds, a set of living room furniture, benches and a polytank.

Mr Adabor said the objective of the assembly to provide healthcare facilities within every five-kilometre radius would be achieved by the close of 2008.

"Already, we have 14 health centres and four rural clinics and our calculation is that 20 to 22 health centres will make us achieve our aim and by 2008, we have to reach that goal", he said. Dr Erasmus Yao Klutse, the District Director of Health Services, said the acquisition of logistics, especially furniture for the four clinics was a major challenge to the implementation of that laudable concept.

He therefore commended the small-scale miners for the donation.
